Deck Collars are used on keel-stepped Rigs to help prevent water leakage where the Mast goes through the Deck. They fit around the Mast and cover the Deck Collar and Mast Wedges. Mast Boots are designed to be put on the mast prior to stepping. They can be installed on a stepped mast by making a vertical cut on the aft side, which can be glued or taped over afterwards, but obviously this method compromises its' integrity. Rig-Rite stocks a large selection of Deck Collars. Most Mast Boots are formed from a PVC plastic, and are designed to fit specific Mast Sections, as well as specific Deck Collars. If you require an original Mast Boot, you must first determine which Mast Section you have, by Manufacturer. In some cases Deck Collar specifications will also be required. 'Universal' Mast Boots are available as well, though, of necessity, they are much thinner, more flexible, and less durable than the original type. To determine which of these will be suitable, you must know the circumference of your Mast and of your Deck Collar (where the Mast Boot fits over it). 'Universal' Mast Boots
Soft molded PVC Mast Boots are 'stepped' to fit a wide range of Mast Sections. Simply cut the Boot at the smallest 'step' that will fit over the Mast Section, and at the smallest 'step' that will fit over the Deck Collar. All 'Universal' Mast Boots come with a special cement for use in installing on stepped Masts.
