T-Ball Backing Plates

Internally mounted Backing Plate Tangs for use with Gibb and other T-Ball Shroud fittings. T-Balls must be turned 90 degrees to be removed from Backing Plates. Plates are designed to fit through the mounting slot and are then fastened from the outside. As measurements vary widely, it is recommended that T-Balls be replaced only with the same type as original. In new masts Gibb T-Ball Backing Plates are recommended for their heavier construction and the greater worldwide availability of Gibb T-Balls in swage and Norseman versions. Please Note: Gibb also makes 'Rounded' T-Ball Swages and fittings (a newer heavy-duty version of the standard T-Ball) which require different Backing Plate Tangs, See: Gibb 'Rounded' T-Ball Backing Plate Tangs.

Gibb T-Ball Backing Plate Tangs and Retaining Plugs
Heavy-duty Gibb T-Ball Backing Plates for use with original Gibb T-Balls. Rubber plugs, GIB-742, are available to keep T-Balls from moving when not under load. See below.
T-Ball Backing Plate for 3/32" & 1/8" wire: GIB 740-3: SS T-Ball Backing Plate Tang for 3/32" & 1/8" (or 2mm, 2.5mm & 3mm) wire using Gibb T-ball fittings, #741-3, 741-4, and the #743-3 T-Ring Fitting. Mounts internally in mast cutout 5/8" (16mm) high x 3/8" (10mm) wide using (2) 3/16" (5mm) rivets on 1 3/8" (34mm) hole centers. Plate is 2" long x 9/16" wide, and is contoured for use with most Mast Sections. Slot in Plate measures 1/2" long x 9/32" wide (13x7mm).
T-Ball Backing Plate w/ Screws for 3/32" & 1/8" wire: GIB 740-3MS: As GIB 740-3, above, but unit has tapped holes for installation with 1/4" screws (included). For use where riveting is not practical.
T-Ball Backing Plate for 5/32" wire: GIB 740-5: SS T-Ball Backing Plate Tang for 5/32" (4mm) wire using Gibb T-ball fitting #741-5, and the #743-5 T-Ring Fitting. Mounts internally in mast cutout 1 1/4" (32mm) high x 9/16" (15mm) wide using (4) 3/16" (5mm) rivets. Plate is 3 7/16" long x 1 1/16" wide, and is contoured for use with most Mast Sections. Mounting holes are 1 15/16" (49mm), and 2 7/8" (73mm) apart. Slot in Plate measures 1 1/16" long x 3/8" wide (27x10mm).	GIB 740-5

T-Ball Backing Plate for 3/16" wire: GIB 740-6: SS T-Ball Backing Plate Tang for 3/16" (or 5mm) wire using Gibb T-ball fitting # 741-6, and the #743-6 T-Ring Fitting. Mounts internally in mast cutout 1 1/8" (29mm) high x 5/8" (16mm) wide using (2) 1/4" (6mm) rivets on 2" (50mm) hole centers. Plate is 2 5/8" long x 1" wide, and is contoured for use with most Mast Sections. Slot in Plate measures 15/16" long x 1/2" wide (24x12mm).

T-Ball Backing Plate for 7/32", 1/4", & 9/32" wire: GIB 740-7: SS T-Ball Backing Plate Tang for 7/32", 1/4", & 9/32" (or 6mm & 7mm) wire using Gibb T-ball fittings, # 741-7, 741-8, 741-8, and the #743-7 T-Ring Fitting. Mounts internally in mast cutout 1 5/8" (40mm) high x 7/8" (22mm) wide using (4) 1/4" (6mm) rivets. Plate is 4 7/8" long x 1 1/16" wide, and is contoured for use with most Mast Sections. Mounting holes are 2 13/16" (71mm), and 4 1/16" (103mm) apart. Slot in Plate measures 1 5/16" long x 5/8" wide (33x16mm).

T-Ball Backing Plate for 5/16" & 3/8" wire: GIB 740-10: Heavy Cast SS T-Ball Backing Plate Tang for 5/16" & 3/8" (or 8mm & 10mm) wire using Gibb T-ball fittings, # 741-10, & 741-12. Mounts internally in mast cutout 1 7/8" (48mm) high x 1" (25mm) wide using (5) 1/4" (6mm) rivets. Plate is 5 9/16" long x 1 5/8" wide, and is contoured for use with most Mast Sections. Slot in Plate measures 1 1/2" long x 3/4" wide (38x19mm).

Rubber Retaining Plugs for Gibb T-Balls
T-Ball Rubber Retaining Plugs for use with Gibb T-Ball Shroud fittings. Rubber plugs keep T-Balls from moving and disengaging when not under load. Dimensions listed are for the portion of the Plug that is visible when they are installed. For replacement Plugs, measure existing Plug or slot in Backing Plate to determine which size is required.

Rubber Plug (visible when installed) is 1" (25mm) high x 15/16" (24mm) wide. Identical to GIB 742-7 (above), but with hard plastic insert in inboard end to increase width.

Lightweight Dermac/Z-Spar T-Ball Backing Plates
These lightweight T-Ball Backing Plates are the type most commonly found on Z-Spar Masts. Compatible with Dermac and other T-Ball fittings, these Backing Plates are not compatible with most sizes of Gibb T-Balls.
