Reef Hooks and Reef Hook/Tack Assemblies
Reef Hooks are used to hold down the "new" Tack (at the reef point) when jiffy reefing the Mainsail. Simple and Rams' Horn Reef Hooks are attached to the Boom, as near the Tack attachment as possible, and are either screwed to the Boom or are attached to the horizontal Gooseneck Pin. In many applications (where the attachment Bolt can not be tightened enough to hold the Reef Hook in place without causing the Gooseneck Toggle to bind) they are wholly unsuited to the task and are, at best, a marginal solution used only where no better off-the-shelf item is available. Reef Hook/Tack Assemblies are a much better solution, generally attached beneath the head of the vertical Gooseneck Bolt, on which the Gooseneck Toggle pivots. These units keep the sail pivot point in line with the Boom pivot point, as well as keeping all Tacks (Original and Reefing) in close proximity, allowing for a better sail set. Please note: If using this item on a mast which has a vertical Gooseneck Pin, it must be replaced with a vertical Gooseneck Bolt and a Nut, as you will now have the full tension of the main halyard on it. A cotter pin is not strong enough to take this shear load. Some Reef Hook/Tack Assemblies are available already welded to a vertical Gooseneck Bolt, please specify the vertical outside measurement of your Gooseneck Bracket, and Pin diameter. All Mainsails should have 2 SS rings webbed together through each of the forward Reef Grommets, as this simplifies the Reefing procedure with all systems. This item was designed for attachment to a variety of Nicro-Fico and Pearson Goosenecks already utilizing a 1/2" Horizontal Pin or bolt.

Rams' Horn Reef Hooks
5/16" Rams' Horn Reef Hook w/ 1/4" Hole: PP 54-1R: SS 5/16" diameter Reef Hook is formed in "Rams' Horn" pattern, attachment end is flattened and has (1) 1/4" (6mm) hole for bolt or screw.
3/8" Rams' Horn Reef Hook w/ 1/4" Hole: PP 54-2R: SS 3/8" diameter Reef Hook is formed in "Rams' Horn" pattern, attachment end is flattened and has (1) 1/4" (6mm) hole for bolt or screw.

SS Reef Hook/Tack Assembly With 5/8" Vertical Bolt: RR 54-B10-6A: Heavy-duty Stainless Steel Reef Hook/Tack Assembly incorporates 5/8" Vertical Gooseneck Bolt. Dual Reef Hooks are formed from 7/16" rod, Assembly is (maximum) 5 1/8" wide x 10" high, and includes captive 3/8" SS Tack Pin. Special Reef Hooks
Reef Hooks w/ 1/2" Vertical Gooseneck Bolt: PP 54-3300-1S: Special Reef Hook Assembly incorporates 2 Reef Hooks with a 1/2" Vertical Gooseneck Bolt. Welded SS Assembly features retaining tab to lock it into Special SS Toggle, PP 45-145SS, so Reef Hooks are always in line with the Boom. Assembly is (maximum) 6 1/2" high x 3" wide, 1/2" bolt is 3 1/8" long beneath 3/4" wide retaining tab and includes SS Locknut. As used on original Schaefer Spars, Pearson 365, and a variety of larger Pearson's. #
