Boom Bails

Boom Bails
Boom Bails are mounted to the Boom and are used to attach Blocks for the Mainsheet and Vang. For most applications Standard Pivoting Boom Bails, which attach with a single Bolt, are used. To select a Standard Bail you will need to know the maximum width of the Boom Section. On smaller boats, Standard and Small Boom Bails are frequently mounted to the Mast for attachment of a (soft) Boom Vang Block and Tackle. Pivoting (Standard) Boom Bails for attachment with a single Bolt. - Reinforcing Plates for Pivoting (Standard) Boom Bails for high-load applications. Small Boom Bails for attachment with screws or rivets. Internally Mounted Boom Bails for attachment with screws or rivets. Special Boom Bails for Round and other Specific Boom Sections. Track Mounted Boom Bails for Booms with an integral Bail track. Track Mounted Vang Lugs for Booms with an integral Bail track. Weld-in Boom Vang Lugs for Custom applications. Boom Vang Ball Attachment Plates for Small Boat removable Boom Vangs using a wire swage ball.

Pivoting (Standard) Boom Bails are listed by the size of the bolt they attach with.
*Boom Bail - 1/4" x 1 3/4" wide: K-S9001:* SS Boom Bail made from 1/2" x 1/16" strap is designed to be attached with (1) 1/4" SS bolt and nut. Formed at 1 3/4" wide, width can be varied to fit larger or smaller sections. Bail length, from bolt center, is 2 1/2". For use with B-section boom.
	*Boom Bail Bolt Ass'y - 1/4" for B-section Boom: K-S9001BA:* Boom Bail bolt Assembly includes 1/4" SS bolt x 2 1/4", with locknut, and nylon washers to prevent bail from damaging boom surface as it pivots.
Boom Bail – 1/4" x 2 1/4" wide: K-10456: Heavy SS Boom Bail made from 1/4" rod is designed to be attached with (1) 1/4" SS bolt and nut. Formed at 2 1/4" wide, width can be varied to fit larger or smaller sections. Bail length, from bolt center, is 2 1/2". Design allows bail to pivot fore and aft for optimal alignment with load. For use with 2331 and D-Section booms. k
	Boom Bail Bolt Assembly - 1/4" for 2331 Boom: K-10456BA: Boom Bail bolt assembly includes 1/4" SS bolt x 2 3/4", with locknut, and nylon washers to prevent bail from damaging boom surface as it pivots.

Boom Bail - 5/16" x 3 1/4" wide: NF-10512: SS Boom Bail made from 5/16" rod is designed to be attached with (1) 5/16" SS bolt and nut. Formed at 3 1/4" wide, width can be varied to fit larger or smaller sections. Bail length, from bolt center, is 4 1/8".

Boom Bail - 3/8" x 2 1/4" wide: K-S9010: Heavy SS Boom Bail made from 3/8" rod is designed to be attached with (1) 3/8" SS bolt and nut. Formed at 2 1/4" wide, width can be varied to fit larger or smaller sections. Bail length, from bolt center, is 3 1/2". For use with D-Section boom. 10

Boom Bail, Long - 3/8" x 2 3/4" wide: K-2223L: Long Heavy SS Boom Bail made from 3/8" rod is designed to be attached with (1) 3/8" SS bolt and nut. Formed at 1 7/8" wide, width can be varied to fit slightly larger or smaller sections. Bail length, from bolt center, is 3 3/8". For special applications.

	Boom Bail bolt assembly includes 1/2" SS bolt x 3", with locknut and nylon washers to prevent bail from damaging boom surface as it pivots.
*Boom Bail - 1/2" x 5 1/4" wide: K-11066:* Large Heavy SS Boom Bail made from 1/2" rod is designed to be attached with (1) 1/2" SS bolt and nut. Formed at 5 1/4" wide, width can be varied to fit slightly larger or smaller sections. Bail length, from bolt center, is 5 1/2". For use with 5072 boom.
	Boom Bail Bolt Assembly - 1/2" for 5072 Boom: K-11066BA: Boom Bail bolt assembly includes 1/2" SS bolt x 6 1/2", with locknut and nylon washers to prevent bail from damaging boom surface as it pivots.

Reinforcing Plates for Standard Boom Bails Boom Bail Bearing Plates are used to reinforce the boom wall, spreading the load of a single bolt attachment out over a greater area and increasing the bearing surface by using additional fasteners. Used with Standard (Pivoting) Boom Bails, they reinforce this most highly loaded part of the Boom and are especially critical on bolts for Vang Bails. Please Note that the larger Reinforcing Plates can be used with Flange Bushings (and a smaller Bolt) to achieve the same strength with maximum weight reduction.
*Boom Bail Bearing Plate for 5/16" Bolt: K-2172RP-5:* SS Reinforcing Plate is used to add Bearing Surface to highly loaded bolts for Standard Boom Bails. Diamond-shaped SS Reinforcing Plate is 3 3/16" long x 2" high and attaches to Boom with (3) 3/16" (5mm) screws or rivets as well as the 5/16" Boom Bail Bolt. Slightly curved Plate is suitable for most Boom Sections, and can be easily contoured to fit others. Two (2) Plates (1 on each side) are required for normal applications.

Small Boom Bails
*Lightweight Boom Bail - 3/8" Strap x 3 1/2" long: K-290B:* Low load version of K-291B, below, made from thinner strap. Lightweight SS Boom Bail is a formed-strap design, which can be easily contoured to fit a variety of smaller sections. Bail is 3/8" wide x 1/16" thick, and 3 1/2" long. Fastens with (4) 3/16" (#10) fasteners on 3/4" centers.
*Lightweight Boom Bail - 3/8" Strap x 4 1/2" long: K-290C:* Low load version of K-291C, below, made from thinner strap. Lightweight SS Boom Bail is a formed-strap design, which can be easily contoured to fit a variety of smaller sections. Bail is 3/8" wide x 1/16" thick, and 4 1/2" long. Internal Boom Bails
Internal Boom Bail - 1/4": K-11364: Internally mounted bail has a 1/4" SS bail welded to a plate formed to fit the *inside* of the boom. Unit is mounted inside the boom, where bail protrudes through a 1" x 1/4" slot, and is held in place with (2) 3/16" SS rivets on 1 7/8" centers. Curved plate measures 2 1/4" long x 3/4" wide. Used on Kenyon 2632, D, and similar Boom Sections. As used on Etchells 22, Sonar, and others.
Internal Boom Bail - 5/16": K-11428: Internally mounted bail has a 5/16" SS bail welded to a p1formed to fit the *inside* of the boom. Unit is mounted inside the boom, where bail protrudes through a 5/16" x 1 1/2" slot, and is held in place with (2) 3/16" rivets on 3 1/4" centers. Curved plate measures 4" long x 1 3/8" wide. Used on Kenyon E, 3550, 3756 and similar Boom Sections.
Internal Boom Bail - 3/8": K-11682: Heavy 3/8" SS bail is welded to a SS plate that fits *inside* of the boom. Unit is mounted inside the boom, where bail protrudes through a 3/8" x 2" slot, and is held in place with (4) 1/4" rivets on 3 1/8" and 4 5/8" centers. Plate measures 5 5/8" long x 1 1/8" wide x 3/16" thick. Used on Kenyon 4060 and similar Boom Sections. *
Internal Boom Bail - 1/2": K-11682HD: Heavy 1/2" SS bail is welded to a SS plate that fits *inside* of the boom. Unit is mounted inside the boom, where bail protrudes through a 1/2" x 2 1/2" slot. Plate measures 7" long x 1 1/2" wide x 1/4" thick and has welded nuts for (4) 5/16-18 screws on 3 1/2" and 6" centers. Used on Kenyon 5072 and similar Boom Sections. #?P530

Special Boom Bails
*Strap Bail with Welded Loop: COL-BB3:* Special Boom Bail to fit 3" wide, flat sided oval Section. Stainless Strap is 1" wide x 1/8" thick with welded 3/16" Loop running fore and aft. Bail fastens with (4) 3/16" (#10) fasteners. As used on Columbia 4 1/2" x 3" Boom.
*Bail for 3" Round Boom: MM-RB300-B1:* Special Boom Bail to fit 3" diameter Round Boom Section. Shallow Bail features 5/16" SS rod welded to (2) Stainless Pads. Pads measure 2 1/4" long x 1 1/4" wide, and are contoured to fit Round Boom. Bail is 3" wide and fastens with (8) 1/4" fasteners.
*Bail for 3 3/4" Round Boom: MM-RB375-B1:* Special Boom Bail to fit 3 3/4" diameter Round Boom Section. Shallow Bail features 5/16" SS rod welded to (2) Stainless Pads. Pads measure 2 1/4" long x 1 1/4" wide, and are contoured to fit Round Boom. Bail is 3 3/4" wide and fastens with (8) 1/4" fasteners.
*Bail for 4 1/2" Round Boom: MM-RB450-B1:* Special Boom Bail to fit 4 1/2" diameter Round Boom Section. Shallow Bail features 5/16" SS rod welded to (2) Stainless Pads. Internal Track Mounted Boom Bails
----- Kenyon / Proctor Boom Bails
*Adjustable Boom Bail for 5/8" x 1/8" internal track: K-1265:* SS Sliding Boom Bail for the Kenyon 2222 boom and other sections with a 5/8" x 1/8" internal track. Boom bail positions are easily adjusted for differing conditions by use of SS thumbscrew, *K-45, (included). Sliding is prevented by drilling a 1/4" hole beneath thumbscrew in desired position. As used on Thistle,* and others. Also used on some Proctor Spar Sections.

*Isomat NB1 Boom Bail Assembly: NB1-15A:* SS Articulating Boom Bail is used for attachment of blocks and reef lines. Fits in integral slot in underside of NB-16 and NB-26, and other boom sections with an underside boom bail slot that is 31mm wide x 3mm deep. Bail is made from 8mm (5/16") rod. Formed plate is 2mm thick and measures 90mm (3 1/2") long x 30mm (1 3/16") wide. Fastens with (2) 3/16" rivets.
	NB-1 Boom Bail: NB1-15R: SS formed rod bail only, as used in NB1 Boom Bail Assembly NB1-15A, above. Bail is made from 8mm (5/16") rod, and is 2 1/16" (53mm) long x (maximum) 1" (25mm) high.
	NB-1 Boom Bail Plate: NB1-15BP: SS formed plate only, as used in NB1 Boom Bail Assembly NB1-15A, above. Plate is 2mm thick and measures 90mm (3 1/2") long x 30mm (1 3/16") wide. Fastens with (2) 3/16" rivets.
*Isomat NB1 Boom Bail Assembly - New Style: NB1-15NA:* New Style SS Articulating Boom Bail is used for attachment of blocks and reef lines. Fits in integral slot in underside of NB-16 and NB-26, and other boom sections with an underside boom bail slot that is 31mm wide x 3mm deep. Bail is made from 8mm (5/16") rod. Formed plate is 2mm thick and measures 115mm (4 1/2") long x 27mm (1 1/16") wide. Fastens with (2) 3/16" (5mm) rivets.
	NB-1 Boom Bail - New Style: NB1-15NR: SS formed rod bail only, as used in NB1 New Style Boom Bail Assembly NB1-15NA, above. Bail is made from 8mm (5/16") rod, and is 2 3/4" (70mm) long x (maximum) 1 7/16" (36mm) high.
	NB-1 Boom Bail Plate - New Style: NB1-15NBP: SS formed plate only, as used in NB1 New Style Boom Bail Assembly NB1-15NA, above. Plate is 2mm thick and measures 115mm (4 1/2") long x 27mm (1 1/16") wide. Fastens with (2) 3/16" (5mm) rivets.
Isomat NB2 Boom Bail Assembly: NB2-15A: SS Articulating Boom Bail fits in integral slot in underside of NB-32, NB-40, NB-55, and other boom sections with an underside boom bail slot that is 31mm wide x 4.5mm deep. Bail is made from 10mm rod. Formed plate is 3.2mm thick and measures 4 3/4" (120mm) long x 1 3/16" (30mm) wide. Fastens with (2) 1/4" rivets.
	NB2 Boom Bail: NB2-15R: SS formed rod bail only, as used in NB2 Boom Bail Assembly NB2-15A, above. Bail is made from 10mm (3/8") rod, and is 2 3/4" (70mm) long x (maximum) 1 15/16" (50mm) high.
	NB2 Boom Bail Plate: NB2-15BP: SS formed plate only, as used in NB2 Boom Bail Assembly NB2-15A, above. Plate is 3.2mm thick and measures 4 3/4" (120mm) long x 1 3/16" (30mm) wide. Fastens with (2) 1/4" rivets.
Isomat NB2 Boom Bail Assembly - Heavy-duty: NB2-15AW: As NB2-15A (above), but Bail is reinforced with a welded crossbar. This heavy-duty option prevents the bail from compressing in extreme circumstances and is used primarily on larger boats.
	NB2 Heavy-duty Boom Bail: NB2-15RW: SS formed rod Bail only, reinforced with a welded crossbar, as used in NB2 Heavy-duty Boom Bail Assembly NB2-15AW, above. Bail is made from 10mm (3/8") rod, and is 2 3/4" (70mm) long x (maximum) 1 15/16" (50mm) high.

----- Z-Spar Boom Bails
Z-Spar Boom Bail Eyestrap: Z-3043: SS Eyestrap Boom Bail features specially flattened ends to slide in integral track in underside of Z120 boom section. Eyestrap is formed from 8mm (1/4") rod, and is fastened with (2) 3/16" rivets on 45mm (1 3/4") hole centers. 1587
Z-Spar Boom Bail Assembly - 20mm: Z-3044A: SS Articulating Boom Bail fits in integral track in underside of Z160, Z204, and other boom sections with a 20mm wide track. Bail is made from 7mm rod. Formed plate is 2mm thick and measures 3 1/8" (80mm) long x 13/16" (20mm) wide. Fastens with (2) 3/16" rivets.
*Z-Spar Boom Bail Assembly - 20mm Heavy-duty: Z-3044AW:* Welded SS Boom Bail fits in integral track in underside of Z160, Z204, and other boom sections with a 20mm wide track. As Z-3044A (above), but bail is welded in position and does not articulate. Formed plate is 2mm thick and measures 3 1/8" (80mm) long x 13/16" (20mm) wide. Fastens with (2) 3/16" rivets.
Z-Spar Boom Bail Assembly w/ Toggle - 20mm: Z-3484A: SS Boom Bail features SS Toggle Assembly with 8mm (5/16") pin and fits in integral track in underside of Z160, Z204, and other boom sections with a 20mm wide track. Formed plate is 2mm thick and measures 3 1/8" (80mm) long x 13/16" (20mm) wide. Fastens with (2) 3/16" rivets. For use with Boom Vangs requiring a pin for attachment.

Track Mounted Vang Lugs
*NB1 Boom Vang Attachment Lug - 14mm (9/16"): NB1-16S-14:* SS Boom Vang Attachment Lug is used for attachment of Solid (hard) Vang Struts. Fits in integral slot in underside of NB-16 and NB-26, and other boom sections with an underside boom bail slot that is 31mm wide x 4.5mm deep. Slide plate (2.5mm) is 5 3/4" long, and is welded to 5mm (3/16") thick Triangle with 14mm (9/16") hole. Slides into track and fastens with (4) 3/16" (5mm) rivets. Fits NB1 Isovang.
*NB1 Boom Vang Attachment Lug - 16mm (5/8"): NB1-16S-16:* SS Boom Vang Attachment Lug is used for attachment of Solid (hard) Vang Struts. Fits in integral slot in underside of NB-16 and NB-26, and other boom sections with an underside boom bail slot that is 31mm wide x 4.5mm deep. Slide plate (2.5mm) is 5 3/4" long, and is welded to 5mm (3/16") thick Triangle with 16mm (5/8") hole. Slides into track and fastens with (4) 3/16" (5mm) rivets.
*Isomat NB1 Vang Attachment Lug for Easykick 1 Vang: NB1-16E1:* SS Boom Vang Attachment Lug designed specifically for use with Easykick 1 Solid Vang. Fits in integral slot in underside of Isomat NB-16 and NB-26, and other boom sections with an underside boom bail slot that is 31mm wide x 3mm deep. Slide plate (2.2mm) is 3 1/2" (90mm) long, and welded to 4mm Triangular nose with hole for 6mm (1/4") pin. Slides into track and fastens in place with (2) 3/16" rivets.
*Isomat NB1 Vang Attachment Lug for Easykick 2 Vang: NB1-16E2:* SS Boom Vang Attachment Lug designed specifically for use with Easykick 2 Solid Vang. Fits in integral slot in underside of Isomat NB-16 and NB-26, and other boom sections with an underside boom bail slot that is 31mm wide x 3mm deep. Slide plate (3mm) is 3 15/16" (100mm) long, and welded to formed Triangular channel that is 13mm (1/2") wide (outside) with 8mm (5/16") clearance inside and hole for 6mm (1/4") pin. Slides into track and fastens in place with (2) 1/4" rivets.

Fits in integral slot in underside of Isomat NB-16 and NB-26, and other boom sections with an underside boom bail slot that is 31mm wide x 3mm deep. Slide plate (2.2mm) is 5 1/8" (130mm) long, and welded to formed Triangular channel that is 16mm (5/8") wide (outside) with 10mm (3/8") clearance inside and hole for 6mm (1/4") pin. Slides into track and fastens in place with (2) 1/4" rivets.
*NB2 Boom Vang Attachment Lug - 14mm (9/16"): NB2-16S-14:* SS Boom Vang Attachment Lug is used for attachment of Solid (hard) Vang Struts. Fits in integral slot in underside of NB-32, NB-40, NB-55, and other boom sections with an underside boom bail slot that is 31mm wide x 4.5mm deep. Slide plate (2.5mm) is 6" long, and is welded to 4mm (5/32") thick Triangle with 14mm (9/16") hole. Slides into track and fastens with (4) 1/4" (6mm) rivets. Fits NB1 Isovang.
*NB2 Boom Vang Attachment Lug - 16mm (5/8"): NB2-16S-16:* SS Boom Vang Attachment Lug is used for attachment of Solid (hard) Vang Struts. Fits in integral slot in underside of NB-32, NB-40, NB-55, and other boom sections with an underside boom bail slot that is 31mm wide x 4.5mm deep. Slide plate (3mm) is 6 1/2" long, and is welded to 5mm (3/16") thick Triangle with 16mm (5/8") hole. Slides into track and fastens with (4) 1/4" (6mm) rivets.
*NB2 Boom Vang Attachment Lug - 22mm (7/8"): NB2-16L-22:* SS Boom Vang Attachment Lug is used for attachment of Solid (hard) Vang Struts. Fits in integral slot in underside of NB-32, NB-40, NB-55, and other boom sections with an underside boom bail slot that is 31mm wide x 4.5mm deep. Slide plate (3.2mm) is 8" long, and is welded to 6mm (1/4") thick Triangle with 22mm (7/8") hole. Slides into track and fastens with (4) 1/4" (6mm) rivets. Fits NB2 Isovang.

Weld-in Boom Vang Lugs
Weld-in Boom Vang Lug w/ 5/8" hole, 3/8" wide: K-11700J: Heavy-duty Aluminum Boom Vang Attachment Lug is welded into the Boom. Vang Lug slides into Boom, drops through a 3/8" wide x 3" long slot, and is welded in place from the outside. Lug is much longer than slot it fits in to provide stiffening and reinforcement in this high-stress area. Vang Lug is cut from 6061-T6 Plate and is (maximum) 4" long x 3/8" wide x 1 3/4" high, Lug projects approximately 1 3/8" from underside of Boom when installed. Vang Lug has 5/8" hole for use with any shackle. As used on new J/24 Racing Boom.

Vang Lug slides into Boom, drops through a 1/2" wide x 8" long slot, and is welded in place from the outside. Lug is much longer than slot it fits in to provide stiffening and reinforcement in this high-stress area. Vang Lug is cut from 6061-T6 Plate and is (maximum) 10 1/2" long x 1/2" wide x 2 7/8" high, Lug projects approximately 1 7/8" from underside of Boom when installed. In addition to 1/2" attachment hole, a 3/8" hole is provided for a shackle to attach a preventer. Fits Most Boom Vangs with a 1/2" Pin.

Boom Vang Ball Attachment Plates
A Wire Pennant with Swage Ball allows quick and easy attachment of the Vang to the Boom without use of any tools, and is common on many smaller boats. Originally developed for use on Roller-Reefing booms where a flush-mounted Vang attachment was required to prevent damage to the sail, it caught on, and Ball Attachment Plates are now produced for non-rolling booms using a raised channel to eliminate the need for a slot in the boom.

	Boom Vang Wire Pennant with Swage Ball: K-2182WP: Wire Pennant for attachment of Boom Vang to Boom Vang Ball Attachment Plate. Pennant is 1/8" wire with swage ball and shank (MS20664-4) on one end and a nicopress and thimble on the other. Thimble allows attachment of any upper Vang block. Assembly is 6" long.
