Isofurl
|
| The Isofurl is a solid-rod
type Jib furling system, with Twin Luff Grooves. This system
replaces the Headstay and has no stay inside the furling rod. Produced by Isomat, the
French Sparbuilder, it was assembled full length and shipped with the mast as part of a
'package' sold to many Boatbuilders. The solid rod Isofurl system came in 2 different rod
sizes. To determine which size you have, you will have to measure the
rod. Most Isofurl systems came with a "Halyard Hoist Locking Car",
to which the head of the sail was attached. This car is hoisted by a special hook with a
long messenger line attached to it. The halyard is attached to the top of the hook NOT
to the locking car. When the car is hoisted to the top of the system, it locks in place,
and the halyard (with hook still attached) is pulled down with a messenger line. Some Isofurl systems came with a conventional-type Halyard Swivel, to which the halyard stayed attached after hoisting. This Halyard Swivel was also used as a retrofit by those who preferred the more conventional arrangement. In rare cases where the 'locking lip' at the top of the system has worn, or broken off, the halyard locking car will no longer lock. The Halyard Swivel is an effective cure for this problem as well, and installs easily in minutes. For System Details, See: Isofurl System Diagrams To remove any System Components, See: Isofurl Bearing Replacement Sailmakers, See: Isofurl Sailmaker Instructions

Upper Bearing Assembly w/ Eye This unit threads directly onto the Upper Rod End and contains the Bearings that allow the rod to rotate, as well as an Eye that connects the system to the Forestay Toggle. Forestay Toggles are required for use with all Furling Systems. When reattaching the Upper Bearing Assembly to the Rod End new Teflon thread tape (a standard plumbing item) should be used on the screw threads to help prevent water intrusion. |

| Bearing Replacement Kits Isofurl systems have a set of 3 highly specialized torque bearings with special SS spacers and seals in an aluminum housing on each end of the rod. Bearing Replacement Kits contain all the bearings and seals necessary to rebuild Both ends of the System. Special tools are required, as bearings are press-fit. However, if your Bearings require replacement, we recommend that you Replace the Upper and/or Lower Ends (Upper Bearing Ass'y, above, and Lower Bearing Ass'y, below). Halyard Swivel Though not commonly supplied with most Isofurl systems, a conventional-type Halyard Swivel is sometimes used to replace the Halyard Hoist Locking Car. When using a Halyard Swivel, the halyard stays attached after hoisting the sail, as in conventional furling systems. Available in two sizes to fit the two different size rods.
